umami clothing company was formed in 2008 by John Pa and Wayne Adams.

umami is about unique, custom designs that are as engaging as aesthetic and luxurious. Each line is developed specifically to balance a highly-conceptual, artistic approach with outstanding design and materials.

umami is a company built on a human model - with a definite personality, physical structure, and spirit. To that end, umami functions as a person does - endeavoring to live fully, ethically, sustainably and with a small carbon footprint.

umami works with The Maura Clarke - Ita Ford Center in their manufacturing process, located in Brooklyn. The center is named after two New York women who were killed in El Salvador for working with the poor. MCIF is a non-for-profit that honors their legacy by working with economically depressed and immigrant women in Brooklyn, educating, providing them the tools to better their families and community, and empowering them to break the cycle of poverty. MCIF has a sewing division that hand cuts and sews umami's designs.

10% of our profits go to support social justice and environmental protection organizations and people with similar goals.
